Viva Fiesta!

Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, is a city that’s been preserved in time. Its street layout is based on the classic Hispanic checkerboard design. Its main street, Calle Crisologo, is lined with brick and wooden buildings that have steeply pitched roofs that evoke traditional Chinese design. A very complete and well-preserved representation of a European trading town in East and South-East Asia is Vigan. Vigan was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999 because of all these qualities.

Every January 25, Vigan City Fiesta is celebrated. It is observed on the feast day of St. Paul the Apostle's conversion. Vigan City's patron saint is St. Paul. St. Paul was known as Saul before his conversion, and he was a fervent persecutor of Christians. His name was changed to Paul after a personal encounter with Jesus Christ on his trip to Damascus, and he faced many hardships and perils to preach the word of God to distant places.

During the aforementioned Fiesta's celebration this year after 2 years due to a pandemic. Street dancing, carnivals, food fairs, competitions called "showdowns," and many other events are available. It's entertaining to see the competitors in the longganisa street dancing competition put on fantastic performances. Carnival, is situated in Solid west of Vigan City, is where you can enjoy thrilling rides like the Viking, frisbee, and ferris wheel. There are other rides suitable for children and those who do not enjoy intense thrills. Additionally, you can enjoy a food at   the carnival, which has food stands both inside and outside.

It's more fun sa pamayanan!

So come and explore Vigan City!
